About the Opportunity
The Annapolis Valley Region is seeking applications for a permanent full-time certified Geriatrician to join the senior care team to provide coverage in the Annapolis Valley.
A supportive interdisciplinary senior care team is in place and consists of nurses, social workers, administrative assistant, and program manager.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing geriatric team within the Western Zone. In addition to playing an important clinical role, collaboration and consultation to family physicians and medical specialists using a shared-care model is key.
Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified candidates must have Royal College certification (or equivalent) in Geriatric Medicine.
Preference will be given based on full time experience in geriatric medicine. Candidates must be eligible for specialty licensure in Nova Scotia and must be able to independently commute to a variety of care settings served by this service;
care is provided in all care settings in the area including hospital, home, long-term care, and assisted living residences.
The physician works closely with the senior care team.
The beautiful Annapolis Valley has community hospitals in Middleton, and Annapolis Royal as well as Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) in Kentville.
VRH serves a catchment area of 80,, has beds and provides the following services :

Responsibilities
- provide full scope of practice as an internist and geriatrician
- provide office-based, hospital, on call, and ICU support as required
- contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
- contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned
- provide support to your own site but also to others in the Western Zone if required, which will include travelling clinics.
- responsible to the Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
- operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health Authority

Qualifications
- Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
- Canadian Medical Protective Association
