As a Senior Security Advisor with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of experts. Reporting to the Manager Security, this position will assess security risks related to Trans Mountain facilities and lead implementation of protective measures. The Senior Security Advisor will also assist in the development and implementation of the Security Programs including the Integrated Safety and Loss Management System (ISLMS) documents.

This position is based in our Burnaby Regional Office and will be responsible for our locations from Burnaby to our Westridge Terminal.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Identify, evaluate, and control all security threats related to the facilities in the lower mainland, BC.
  • Monitor environment for credible security threats including social media.
  • Prepare plans to protect against credible threats. Execute plans as required.
  • Review security plans for Trans Mountain offices and pump stations in the British Columbia Region annually.
  • Update plans as required for facility modifications and additions.
  • Investigate security breaches and report to authorities as required and assist with investigations.
  • Provide reports and recommendations to Operations Senior Management.
  • Ensures security is maintained during incidents and protect employees from potential threats to health and safety by conducting security checks and consulting with key stakeholders.
  • Assists in the incident command process during incidents and emergency response exercises annually.
  • Coordinate security exercise and training program sessions including planning and executing tabletop exercises with local police force participation annually, or as required by security management program.
  • Communicate with law enforcement and regulators to ensure familiarity with critical and business essential facilities. Liaise with law enforcement regarding planned protests or other security incidents.
  • Review, develop and maintain Security Program ISLMS documentation, including policies and procedures, to meet CER OPR management system requirements.
  • Participate in ISLMS development committees and in internal ISLMS security audits.
  • Develop and implement audit corrective action plans to address audit findings.
  • Meet regulatory compliance including identifying applicable legislation and implementing measure for compliance including security exercises and other government security requirements.
  • Working with project management on security projects, including budget submissions and vendor management.

Qualification and Professional Experience

  • University degree in a related security field (Security, Criminology and / or Political Science).
  • Over 7 years’ experience in corporate security profession preferably in the energy industry.
  • Excellent working knowledge of regulatory requirements in the pipeline industry.
  • Experience working in an operating environment.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft programs specifically Excel.
  • Other requirements and Information

  • ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification is an asset.
  • Travel to work sites is required (25 %).
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Good working knowledge of technology requirement for physical Security (CCTV, IDS (Intrusion detection systems), access control.
