Job Skills / Requirements

The Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre has a 24‑hour emergency department, medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation, chronic pain and ambulatory care services, a meticulously run lab, respiratory therapy and diagnostic imaging departments. The main entrance to the building is 19428 Nova Scotia Trunk 2, Amherst NS B4H 3Y4.

Position Details

  • Position : Full‑Time Security Guard
  • Site : Cumberland Regional Hospital
  • Hours : Rotational Shifts – 0700‑1900 / 1900‑0700
  • Payrate : $20.50

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol Hospital Grounds – conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
  • Monitor Surveillance Systems – operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
  • Access Control – monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to restricted areas.
  • Respond to Emergencies – act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats; assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
  • Provide Customer Service – greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff; provide directions and ensure guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Conflict Resolution – de‑escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
  • Report Writing – document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately; complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
  • Collaboration with Hospital Staff – work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
  • Enforce Hospital Policies – ensure hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed; address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.
  • Prerequisites

  • Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a CSA‑approved vendor)
  • COVID Vaccine – two doses
  • Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and a two‑step TB skin test
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred
  • Must provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants lacking these certifications may opt into Paladin’s UOF / MOAB training program prior to onboarding to meet position requirements
  • Paladin will cover all UOF / MOAB training costs with a 6‑month commitment to the position / availability

    High School Diploma / GED

    Certification Requirements
