Job Summary

The Team

Writing and Content Strategy is a dedicated team of communications specialists who provide high quality writing services and strategic advice to the Premier's Office and the GCPE Executive on corporate priorities. We are a small and supportive team that works to tight deadlines, with a focus on speechwriting support for Premier's Communications. We work closely with Ministry communications shops, other teams at GCPE HQ, and Ministers' Offices to ensure we are delivering products that are accurate, on message, and on time.

The Role

The Director of Writing and Content Strategy plays a key leadership role in crafting impactful communications that reflect the government's values and priorities. This position oversees a talented team, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where diverse perspectives drive innovative messaging. By skillfully managing resources and navigating sensitive contexts, the Director of Writing and Content Strategy ensures communications resonate with varied audiences while advancing core objectives, maintaining professionalism, and upholding the highest standards of accuracy.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in communications and public relations, or professional designation (APR, CMP).
  • Seven (7) years' experience in progressively more responsible communications roles.
  • Three (3) years' experience in communications strategy planning, development, and implementation.
  • Three (3) years' experience in professional writing / communications product development, (e.g. : engagement and communication plans, new releases, backgrounders; publications content; speech writing; notes and strategies for legislative introductions; web content etc.).
  • Three (3) years' experience working in a variety of communications shops.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference statement

  • Preference may be given to those with more than 7 years' experience in progressively more responsible communications roles.

    About this Position :

    This position will be based at GCPE headquarters in Victoria.

    Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.

    An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

    A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

    Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

    This position is excluded from union membership.
