The Project Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing and delivering complex projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they align with strategic goals and leadership expectations. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the project, including scope, timelines, resources, and budgets. The role requires strong leadership to guide cross-functional teams, manage risks, and address challenges proactively. The Project Director also ensures clear communication with project partners, sponsors, and governance bodies, providing regular updates and performance reports. With a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes, they foster collaboration across departments and drive the project to successful completion within agreed parameters.
The Project Director will have a matrix reporting structure, reporting to both the Directors of Primary Care & Community Information Systems and Clinical Informatics, as well as to an established governance body.
Mandatory Criteria
- At least 5 years of combined experience as a Project Manager, Project Development Officer, or Project Officer for large complex projects.
- At least 4 years of combined experience with projects involving BC’s Health Organizations (i.e., FHA, FNHA, IHA, VIHA, NHA, PHSA, VCH, and / or PHC) or BC Ministry of Health.
- Hands-on experience in a leading senior role for enterprise strategic initiatives.
- Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal with audiences at all levels.
- Exceptional active listening skills.
- Exceptional ability to develop and deliver clear messages for complex topics to a variety of audiences at all levels.Demonstrated experience facilitating and managing consultation processes with a wide range of project partner groups.
- Experience with PHSA Project Management Office with knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and real-world best practices.
- Exceptional skills in handling sensitive and challenging situations.
- Exceptional organizational and time management.
- Exceptional ability to work across all project areas (e.g., technical and clinical) and identify upstream impacts, downstream impacts, dependencies, and overlapping activities.
- Experience developing, implementing, and supporting complex multi-project governance structures.
- Ability to negotiate, influence and mediate resolutions to complex situations.
- Proven ability to achieve, and to recognize the need for, alignment with the strategic direction of the organization. Develop and analyze potential strategic scenarios and options and identify gaps and opportunities.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to coach, motivate and mentor others and able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to find the most effective outcomes.
- Experience leading an interRAI / Integrated interRAI Reporting System (IRRS) project.
- Experience with PARIS.
- Experience working with project partners, procurement, and relevant departments to source vendor-based solutions, including managing sourcing and negotiating contracts.
- Experience managing Security Threat and Risk Assessment (STRA) and Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) process.
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing a vendor management framework.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
- Valid (unexpired) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Consultant(s) to include a copy of the valid (unexpired) certificate issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
- Valid Prosci Certified Change Practitioner certification. Consultant(s) to include a copy of the valid certificate issued by Prosci.
Highly Desirable Criteria
Valid (unexpired) PMI-Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) certification. Consultant(s) to include a copy of the valid (unexpired) certificate issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI).Valid (unexpired) industry recognized certification(s) in privacy, including those from International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
