Role Overview
Our client is a well-established consumer technology organization with over two decades of experience developing safety‑driven electronic products used by millions of customers globally. Their brands are sold through major e‑commerce channels, online marketplaces, and big‑box retail partners across North America. The company is currently undergoing a strategic shift—moving from a traditional hardware‑focused e‑commerce model toward a subscription‑enabled technology offering supported by cloud‑based services. They are also expanding into a more advanced, professional‑grade security category. This evolution calls for a hands‑on finance leader who can build structure, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen financial governance in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment. This role is ideal for a CPA‑designated finance professional with a strong backbone in accounting, exceptional operational instincts, and the ability to build a scalable finance function. The position involves direct partnership with the CEO and senior leadership team while remaining deeply rooted in day‑to‑day operations.
What You’ll Accomplish in This Role
Leadership & Operations
- Lead all financial and operational accounting activities, including treasury, tax, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Advise senior leadership on business performance, risk, and major decision‑making.
- Implement automation and process improvements to enhance accuracy, speed, and efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and departments.
- Hire, mentor, and guide an accounting team, developing an operational function from the ground up.
- Provide recommendations on internal controls and reporting requirements directly to the CEO.
- Maintain a highly hands‑on leadership style suited to a dynamic, fast‑moving environment.
- Optimize Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, including reporting logic, integrations, and automation opportunities.
- Oversee the full financial close cycle and deliver accurate, timely reporting packages and analyses.
- Ensure the issuance of high‑quality financial statements and internal dashboards.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and treasury requirements.
- Strengthen financial processes, documentation, SOPs, and reporting tools.
- Develop KPIs and performance measures aligned with operational and strategic priorities.
- Maintain IFRS compliance as well as all audit and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Oversee both Canadian and U.S. tax matters in partnership with external advisors.
Team Development & Culture
Build and structure an accounting and operations support team.Create best practices, documentation, and systems to support scaling.Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning, accountability, and cross‑functional support.Collaborate closely with operational, engineering, and leadership teams.What You’ll Bring to the Table
CPA designation required (Canadian CPA; U.S. credential an asset).8–15 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance with people leadership responsibilities.Background in consumer technology, e‑commerce, SaaS, or other product / tech‑driven private‑sector environments.Strong grounding in IFRS and technical accounting.Experience implementing or optimizing ERP systems, ideally Business Central (Microsoft 365).High degree of technical aptitude; comfort with data systems and automation tools.Python experience is a bonus but not required.Proven ability to build and mentor teams.Experience working directly with senior leadership and supporting complex operational decisions.Organized, proactive, and hands‑on, with the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.Why This Opportunity?
