The Manager, Wellness & Ability Management provides expertise and leadership in the development, implementation and administration of policies and programs designed to improve overall employee and corporate wellness. The role manages programs related to health and wellness in the workplace and is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of occupational and non-occupational injury and illness management including return to work procedures, graduated return to work programs and the oversight and administration of all accommodation requests.
Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. There will be flexibility to work a hybrid work schedule 2 days per week.
What you'll do
- Develops, implements and maintains health promotion and wellness strategies, policies, and practices for the organization. Sets the direction for health and wellness initiatives.
- Manages comprehensive, cost effective employee wellness programs to ensure compliance with required legislation and leading practices.
- Develops and administers mental health, substance use disorder treatment and continuing care programs.
- Manages all health assessments and services.
- Manages staff communication, education and support for employee wellness issues.
- Coordinates with external providers, contractors, insurers, regulatory bodies etc. to ensure that timely and appropriate treatment plans are in place and monitored for employees. Including early intervention, diagnostic clarification, treatment programs, stay at work and return to work programs for non-occupational injuries and illnesses as well as formal medical-related accommodations.
- Develops formal accommodation plans both temporary and permanent under the Duty to Accommodate legislation / obligations.
- Maintains wellness policies and procedures to ensure best in class wellness guidelines are met.
- Manages Employee Wellness resources; employee and W Gym membership.
- Consults with Senior HR leadership and other senior leaders on Wellness issues.
- Provides advice on wellness matters at the senior management level and provides management information relative to employee wellness, Duty to Accommodate-formal accommodations, mental health, substance use and additional issues.
- Analyses management data to identify trends in wellness benefit utilization and engagement.
- Coordinates on-site biomedical clinics, health promotion and wellness services, including classes, lunch and learns, guest lectures, toolbox talks.
- Selects vendors and performs governance of Wellness programs and services (i.e. Fitness for Duty, Executive Medicals, Independent Medical Evaluations).
What you'll bring
Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or related discipline.Minimum 5 years of progressively senior experience in ability management, wellness management, clinic rehabilitation in an industrial environment.Experience supervising people and projects.Interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to lead and motivate people.Understanding of regulatory requirements and the ability to operationalize those requirements.Leadership skills and the ability to build a team.Problem solving skills and analytical abilities.Communication and organizational skills.Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a team member.Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.Why you'll love working here

In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
