Description

Reporting to the Seaspan Sr. Environment Manager, the Industrial Energy Manager (IEM) will be responsible for leading Seaspan ULC’s Energy Management Programs. The majority of efforts for the IEM will focus on maturing the energy programs, identifying efficiency opportunities, and initiating energy projects across Seaspan Shipyards, as well as building upon electrification projects with Seaspan Transportation. The IEM will support all Shipyards and Marine Transportation groups through the development of a formal Strategic Energy Management Plan, with set targets and objectives.

This position is supported by BC Hydro Industrial Energy Manager Program, which provides opportunities to connect with other industrial professionals, access to training and certification programs and ongoing coaching and support from external consultants.

Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do

  • Champion the ongoing development and implementation of a Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) for Seaspan ULC, with support from the Sr. Environment Manager, including current progress, set targets and objectives, timelines, and action plans.
  • Coordinate directly with utility providers (electricity, natural gas, to ensure agreements are aligned with current and forecast business needs.
  • Develop an energy and GHG emissions tracking and monitoring system for Seaspan ULC operations, facilities, and supply chain, including data collection, preparation of reports and interpretation of results.
  • Review energy data to identify trends and opportunities to conserve energy; communicate opportunities for improvement to internal stakeholders using business cases or project proposals.
  • Engage and support other departments leads in energy projects, programs or actions. This includes Facilities, Trade Leads, Supply Chain, Terminal Managers and others.
  • Champion the development (or enhancement) and implementation of Strategic Energy Management culture through employee awareness programs and communication plans.
  • Complete onsite and virtual energy assessments, identifying and communicating opportunities and incentives towards energy projects or improvements.
  • Coordinate energy or electrification projects, such as studies, investigations, or capital projects, including the formation of project teams in support of project delivery.
  • Coordinate annual management review of SEMP.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Sr. Environment Manager.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Registered Professional Engineer or Registered Engineering Technologist.
  • 5 years work experience in industrial process and in the operation, maintenance and management of electrical and lighting systems or mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with Seaspan’s facilities and industrial processes.
  • Possess valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Able to obtain security clearance.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies.
  • Experience with operations of industrial equipment (such as compressors, pumps, motors, steam systems – including boilers, and furnaces).
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm related to energy efficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in preparing detailed reports.
  • Capability in performing financial analyses for business cases and capital projects.
  • Strong capability with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other common office applications.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills.
  • Project management experience of small capital projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and to effectively accommodate changing priorities.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Willingness to undertake the following training : Energy efficiency training, . CIET Energy Management Training. LEED Professional Accreditation. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation through the Association of Energy Engineers.

  • The estimated salary for this position is $106,900 - $128,300. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
