Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Payroll Analyst to join their growing team. This position will be accountable to lead and execute key payroll auditing processes, data analytics and reporting, as well as supporting payroll processing for groups throughout Canada and the US.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Regularly audit payroll procedures and records to identify non-compliance.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for taxable benefits, source deductions, union payments and other documents related to US and Canadian payroll and benefits.
  • Address payroll inquiry escalations, provide recommendations and solutions utilizing best practice and SME knowledge.
  • Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees (Canada and US) as assigned.
  • Analyze and perform accurate and complex calculations of accrual adjustments, retroactive payments, overpayments, and other calculations as required.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, any payroll-based reporting as required.
  • Collaborate with leadership in the development new payroll policies and procedures.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with any local, federal, provincial / state legislation and tax compliance.

Key Qualifications and Experience :

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in processing full cycle, multi-national payroll.
  • Professional payroll designation or working towards designation is an asset.
  • Previous experience supporting construction-based organizations.
  • Post-secondary education in a finance or accounting related field is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a union environment is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, provincial / state, and local payroll tax requirements and legislation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utilizing reporting software such as Power BI, MS Excel, Crystal Reports is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and demonstrated proficiency in navigating other computer software.
  • Excellent communications skills coupled with a strong customer-focus, to ensure payroll inquiries are handled effectively and in a professional manner.
