Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the export and release of all shipments for DRS Pivotal Power Inc. (PPI) as well as supporting the import of materials to PPI as required. This role is based out of Bedford, Nova Scotia.
As a Logistics Coordinator, your main responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Works with PPI Customers and Carriers to arrange shipments from PPI, including third party carriers
- Arranges/assists with inbound shipments as required
- Prepares all applicable export and supporting documentation, i.e., customs invoice, packing slip, BOL for all outbound shipments
- Ensures compliance with all import and export permit acts and related regulations
- Supports custom clearance efforts with document support for POD, exporter/importer record verification, tariff code queries/corrections, pricing, etc.
- Prepares and submits documentation to NDQAR/DCMA for source inspection and clearance, as required
- Works in conjunction with R & O to return repaired goods to the field
- Manages damaged in transit claims for received goods
- Maintains an accurate audit trail of shipments/exports to end user
- Approves/reconciles all freight invoices
- Negotiates freight quotes to ensure the best possible rates/services for shipping, when applicable
- Liaises and develops a professional working rapport with government agencies and external support services that may influence or assist inbound or outbound freight movement
- Works on new initiatives and process improvements regarding shipping processes
- Knowledge of the Harmonized Coding System (HS Code) of tariff classification would be considered an asset
- Ability to manage and track shipments using carrier portals, freight forwarder systems, and internal databases
- Strong data accuracy and documentation control in regulated environments
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
What you require to be successful in the role:
- Possession of a Diploma in Material or Supply Chain Management or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role within a light manufacturing environment
- Experience in defense contract shipping considered an asset
- Good working knowledge of logistics and distribution, shipping, freight forwarding, carriers, LTL, freight ground and air, and US and Canadian customs requirements
- Effective computer skills including, excel spreadsheets and database creation, maintenance, and update
