The Construction Manager will be instrumental in the expansion of our footprint through end-to-end planning, project management, and financial oversight of both new store and remodeling projects.
Success Criteria :
In this role you’ll be responsible for managing a variety of retail construction and renovation / remodel projects across the country. This position will split time between working remotely, on-site at projects locally, and from our Corporate office located in Mississauga, ON. You are an entrepreneurial self-starter with an appetite to set the foundation for a growing Construction team. The Construction Manager reports to the Sr Manager, Real Estate and works cross-functionally with a diverse group of stakeholders, managing all projects from inception through hand-off to our operations teams.
What You’ll Do :
- Manage multiple retail build-out / renovation projects simultaneously and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders ( real estate managers, architects & engineers, store teams, contractors, vendors and Amplifon leadership)
- Partner with the Real Estate team to evaluate site feasibility and construction-related lease requirements, including assessment of Tenant Allowance requirements and build-out schedules
- Lead the identification and qualification of new General Contractors, as required, to establish preferred relationships and drive efficiencies / cost reductions
- Review and approve building plans; analyze and interpret drawings and auto CAD’s; and scope for bidding and contracted scope of work
- Create construction estimates for capital requests and annual planning efforts, incl. creating and tracking project budgets from site evaluation to project close-out
- Manage project bidding process to ensure submissions reflect the proper scope of work
- Responsible for on-site supervision during the construction process to include management of general contractors, vendors, and providing progress reports to internal stakeholders
- Facilitate the timely, completed closeout package submission as required, incl. coordination with Real Estate team for submission of required Tenant Allowance documents
- Establish effective relationships along with an understanding of municipalities permit process and schedules.
- Lead weekly meetings to keep all partners aligned on scope, schedule, permitting and budget
- Deliver projects on time and on budget
- Ensure contractor compliance safety requirements are met on all sites to eliminate risk
- Facilities involvement; including problem solving when problems arise and contacting the appropriate stakeholder
Qualifications :
years of experience in all aspects of the design / pre-construction and construction process, preferably in retail tenant improvement and remodelsTransferable industries include facilities real estate, commercial real estate, and property managementyears of project management experienceCompletion of a Project Management, Construction, Building Technology Diploma or Architectural / Engineering Degree.Ability to conduct financial business case analysis / translate information into useful formats and draw conclusionsExperience developing and managing budgets, schedules, and agreements, as well as experience negotiating commercial contracts (master agreements, work-orders, etc.)General knowledge of Building Codes across CanadaExcellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloadsSelf-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team as projects dictateStrong organizational skillsPrior design or architecture experience preferredPrevious direct construction management in in-line shopping centers and street locations in major Canadian cities helpfulPosition requires local travel, within cities, and outside of the city up to % of the time (based on projects)Required Proficiency with Tools :
