Job Description :
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY :
This position is a part of a collaborative management team and provides day-to-day supervision of program staff ensuring effective teamwork high standards of work quality and customer service excellence to meet the needs of shelter clients in a housing focus holistic manner in accordance with policies and procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Service Responsibilities :
as a member of the management team as relevant and required particularly as it pertains to day-to-day delivery of services.
oversight and supervision of Social Service Staff and the day-to-day operations in accordance with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
that duties assigned are completed in an appropriate safe and efficient manner by the completion of their respective shifts.
input and may participate in the hiring orientating and evaluating of staff and students.
shift provide support and supervision of staff and assist with crisis intervention diffusing conflict and problem solving as required to ensure the safety of residents and staff; responds initially to client grievances.
for completing the scheduling of staff to ensure coverage for all vacant shifts including sick relief statutory holidays and vacation coverage.
direction and support to social service staff as required.
daily shift changes to ensure proper transmission of information from one shift to another and keep records of daily shift change reports.
and review program staff communication logs to ensure proper documentation and communication between shifts.
statistical and evaluative information to management when required.
provide back up support to and or assume functions at the front desk area or other program areas as needed.
staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development for those supervised.
Health and Safety
to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations
to work in a manner as required by the employer and use the prescribed safety equipment.
that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness conducting incident investigations when required.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
The working conditions are such that to meet the operational needs job flexibility is required as it relates to hours of work and work schedule.
Mostly works regular business hours some evenings and weekend required.
Rotational on-call duties.
This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA Rules including but not limited to those related to hours of work daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 40 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS :
Education Qualifications and Certifications :
Completed an undergraduate university degree in a related field.
Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience including experience in a residential setting experience in supervision leadership coaching and motivating staff and working with marginalized clientele.
Non-violent crisis intervention certification and cpr / first aid certification would be an asset or willing to obtain.
Valid Ontario class g drivers license own vehicle and insurance required. Must provide an original copy of current drivers abstract that it satisfactory to the salvation army in its sole discretion.
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Working knowledge of issues pertaining to homeless individuals.
Experience and working knowledge of the homeless individuals and families information system.
Working in a non-profit and unionized environment is an asset.
Experience working with a diverse population and an ability to demonstrate a supportive respectful and non-judgmental approach to clients.
Knowledge of and proven ability in linking with community resources.
Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below) :
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead coach and motivate staff.
Effectively interact with managers and staff to create a work environment that is positive and mutually supportive.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently when necessary with minimal supervision.
Must have strong organization and planning skills.
Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft office.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Self-motivated and disciplined.
Effective interpersonal skills : ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; ability to develop and maintain a team environment.
Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to the salvation army in its sole discretion (i.e. the salvation army abuse registry) and provide an original copy of a background check with vulnerable sector screening.
Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of the salvation army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation :
The target hiring range for this position is $15.80 to $19.48 with a maximum of $27.50.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
