The District of West Vancouver Parks Department has exciting opportunity for a replacement temporary full-time Equipment Operator III position. An Equipment Operator III operates and maintains heavy mobile equipment of a complex nature in accordance to competency standards, safety practices, regulations as well as performing manual work. The successful candidate must be skilled in the operation of rubber tire backhoes (primarily John Deere controls), and excavators, working knowledge in the operation and use of front-end loaders, and skid steers would also be considered an asset.
This Position Will Be Responsible For
The preferred candidate will possess considerable experience in the operation of various equipment as applied to general parks construction and maintenance work and operating same in congested conditions; good knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents or machine damage; some knowledge of the methods, practices and tools used in servicing and making adjustments to such equipment; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and, mechanical aptitude along with adequate physical stamina to permit performance of assigned duties in all types of weather.
The successful candidate has completed senior secondary school and possesses considerable experience or training in the operation of this or similar equipment and construction machinery used in a variety of construction or maintenance tasks. A valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver’s Licence is required. A valid Class 3 BC Licence with an Air Brake endorsement and / or an Operator’s certificate in accordance with WorkSafe BC’s Occupational Health & Safety Regulation would be considered an asset.

$38.70 per hour (2025 rate) plus 14% in lieu of benefits
