EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST KITSASKINAW EDUCATION AUTHORITY

  • JOB PURPOSE : The Speech-Language Pathologist will work with maskêkosak kiskinomâtowikamik student’s to prevent, assess, diagnose, and provide counselling and rehabilitation for speech, language, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language, and oral motor skills. They will provide high quality direct speech-language therapy services to students according to students’ needs and IPP plans. The SLP will develop treatment plans that are strength-based as well as child and family centered for overall education improvement. The Speech-Language Pathologist will ensure evaluations, treatment plans, and service delivery are aligned with school, provincial, and federal guidelines. They will endeavor to integrate themselves into the Enoch Cree Nation community and provide, when appropriate, volunteer services to the community. They will also assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays / disorders. Along with teaching teams, they will develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies such as visual supports, oral motor exercises, language strips, topics of conversation, and data collection. The Speech-Language Pathologist will ensure students’ skills are generalized across settings by collaborating with teaching teams and related service providers. They will manage a detailed log of service provided and services missed due to student or therapist absences. They will also be responsible for designing and conducting professional development series starting at staff orientation and ending at the end of the school year. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS : Completion of Masters in Speech-Language Therapy Must be registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) Three years school or community related experience Basic knowledge of psychiatric and developmental disorders affecting children and adolescents Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FIOP) Trained Certified in Standard First Aid with AED Cree language is an asset Minimum Class 5 Driver’s License and provide own transportation Clear Criminal Record Check / Intervention Record Check WORKING CONDITIONS : Required to work a total of 40 hours a week, at maskêkosak kiskinomâtowikamik School, while adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
