Role
The Court of King’s Bench Administration is responsible for the courtroom administration of jury trials. The Regional Jury Officer is responsible for participation in the jury selection process and supporting selected members of the jury throughout the trial. The Jury Officer is required to deal with multiple stakeholders including the Judiciary, counsel, Sheriffs, other law enforcement agencies and Court Operation employees.
The Jury Officer position provides and maintains a safe and secure setting for all jury members within the various Court of King’s Bench locations, or other locations as deemed appropriate by Court and Justice Services. Work is performed in ever changing environments, with a requirement to provide a specialized oversight required for the Court of King’s Bench. New and ongoing training is essential to be able to respond to the various aspects required in a jury trial.
A Jury Officer is required to follow specific guidelines for all jury members within the abovementioned court facilities as well as other court or inquiry venues by providing a presence in courtrooms and in public areas outside of courtrooms. This is essential to ensure that policies are adhered to, including escorting juries while sequestered.
This position requires a high degree of professionalism and behaviour that instills public trust and confidence and confidence in the Judiciary and trial proceedings.
Qualifications
High School diploma plus a minimum of two years of related administrative experience is required.
Required skills : Strong communication and interpersonal skills, client service, attention to detail. Experience with legal documents, legal proceedings and law enforcement is an asset. Bilingual in French and English would be considered an asset.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education or 1 year of education for 1 year of experience.
