Why your role matters

Situated within the Education Innovation and Partnerships team in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (PVCE) Portfolio this role drives cross-functional initiatives that enable data-informed decision-making provide pedagogical insights and advance strategic educational innovation.

This position oversees the full lifecycle of learning analytics solutions from identifying institutional priorities and stakeholder requirements to developing models integrating systems delivering insights and evaluating impact. Working in close collaboration with academics education designers data scientists technology specialists and governance groups the Lead ensures analytics are effectively embedded within curriculum design learning environments and student support strategies.

Reporting to the Director Education Innovation and Partnerships the Lead Learning Analytics manages a team of 35 staff and may supervise analysts education specialists or project personnel depending on the scope of ongoing initiatives.

Specific accountabilities for this role include :

• Develop institutional roadmaps frameworks and metrics for analytics use in education aligned with national and international best practice.
• Oversee the design analysis and delivery of learning data dashboards predictive models and performance metrics in collaboration with technical teams.
• Translate complex learning data into actionable insights reports and visualisations tailored for academic leaders educators and support teams.

About You :

• A postgraduate qualification in education data analytics learning science or a related field with extensive experience in learning analytics or educational data leadership.
• Proven track record in leading institution-wide or program-wide learning analytics initiatives with measurable impact.
• Expertise in translating educational questions into data models dashboards and practical insights using tools such as Power BI Python SQL or R.
• Deep understanding of pedagogy curriculum design and student engagement strategies and how analytics can inform and enhance them.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects in data-rich environments.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience engaging and influencing a range of academic and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong awareness of ethical legal and regulatory considerations associated with the use of student data and predictive analytics.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
• Desired experience in the implementation or governance of early alert systems student success platforms or AI-enabled analytics tools.
• Desired familiarity with learning management systems (e.g. Canvas Moodle) assessment platforms and digital engagement tools.
• Desired publication or conference presentation record in learning analytics or digital education.
• Desired experience working in a central academic portfolio or large-scale educational transformation program.
