Manufacturing Technician, CNC Optics (Weekend Shift)

About the Role

This position is responsible for generating and polishing optical components (precision lenses) using CNC machines with 3, 4, and 5 axes; NC; 2 axes and 2 mechanical axes equipment. Operates various precision optics CNC dual-spindle technology and axis design machines with a sound technical problem solving skills. Perform final inspection of complicated optical elements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC programs; CAN cycles with G-code understandings
  • Grind optical components; Precision Optics CNC
  • Edge optical components; Precision Optics CNC
  • Polish optical components; both Precision Optics CNC and Diamond Turned CNC
  • Inspect / measure optical components to ensure conformity to specified tolerances
  • Perform complicated maintenance, repair & troubleshooting of equipment
  • Support the design of new tooling and fixtures for elements and equipment
  • Support the development of new manufacturing processes and make improvements to current manufacturing processes

Education & Skills Requirements

  • Diploma in Photonics or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a minimum of 12 months experience in a related discipline
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Strong technical knowledge, capabilities
  • Understanding of principles of physics and chemistry
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
  • Ability to safely handle delicate optical parts
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to read detailed drawings
  • Ability to effectively operate complicated equipment such as Precision Optics and Diamond Turned CNC and associated equipment
