Job description

The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEH) is seeking an Executive Director to assume organizational leadership as part of the current Chief Executive Officers succession over the next six months. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the current Directors to transition into full leadership management and strategic oversight of the organization by July 2026.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in non-profit leadership particularly within the supportive housing and Indigenous service sectors and demonstrate proven experience in board relations governance and community advocacy. Candidates should have at least five years of experience in a senior leadership or management position preferably in a non-profit or community-based setting.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Strong financial management and literacy;
  • Experience in fund development program design policy implementation and human resource management;
  • Excellent communication advocacy and relationship-building skills;
  • A deep understanding of Indigenous cultures traditions and the unique challenges faced by urban Indigenous communities.

Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations Inuit and/or Métis) and who have experience working with First Nations communities across Vancouver Island.

This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society and make a lasting impact on First Nations Inuit and Métis peoples experiencing homelessness across Vancouver Island. The role is based in Victoria on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen Peoples with regular travel across Vancouver Island and occasional national travel.

Job Details:

Position Type: Full-time 40 hours per week.

Salary:$83200 to$110000

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Provide visionary leadership that aligns with ACEHs mission values and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of programs and services ensuring they meet the needs of the community.
  • Foster a healthy inclusive and culturally safe workplace for managers employees and family members.

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Develop and manage the organizations budget ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Secure funding through grant writing fundraising and partnerships.
  • Oversee compliance with all financial legal and regulatory requirements.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities government agencies funders and local partners.
  • Represent ACEH at community events public engagements and sector-related meetings.

Board & Governance

  • Support the Board of Directors by providing regular reports strategic recommendations and policy guidance.
  • Ensure that all programs and services align with the organizations bylaws and governance
  • policies.

Qualifications & Education:

  • A Bachelors degree in a related field is required with a Masters degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a leadership or senior management role preferably in the non- profit or community sector.
  • Strong financial literacy and experience in budgeting and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated success in program development policy implementation and human resource management.
  • Proven track record of working with boards governance and community advocacy.
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures traditions and the challenges faced by urban Indigenous communities.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations Inuit and/or Métis).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) Adobe Acrobat Canva as well as Social Media platforms.
  • Experience or personal insights into working cooperatively and non-judgmentally with people with disabilities lived experience addictions etc.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and an awareness of the impacts of colonization.
  • Preference given to those with experience working at non-profits.
  • Preference given to those with previous experience working with Indigenous communities and/or in maternal and child health is highly preferred.
  • Requires a valid drivers license and a working vehicle

  • Skilled in developing PowerPoints Posters and Reports.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to complete and prioritize a variety of tasks within a given timeline with adherence to important deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently take initiative when necessary and work collaboratively as part of a team.
