Job Description

Maintain a High Level of Safety, Security and 5S

  • Direct security contractors and contracts to ensure security objectives are met
  • Manage security to ensure that requirements are met for controlled substances and other Regulatory Compliance requirements
  • Be a first responder to security related issues, especially during off hours
  • Identify any potential hazards and ensure all precautions are undertaken
  • Lead all aspects of the implementation of training programs to ensure all personnel are performing in a safe and efficient manner using the appropriate PPE when applicable
  • Ensure accident / incident investigations are carried out in a timely manner and documented to determine root causes, corrective actions and following-up to ensure completion
  • Promote proactive identification and elimination of workplace hazards
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring health & safety policies are followed
  • Ensure the areas are neat and tidy, with a place for everything and everything in its place
  • Regularly audit the work and storage areas to ensure compliance with policies and procedures

Strategy, Planning, and Communication

  • Evaluate and make recommendations regarding personnel, skills, capital projects in a dynamic technical and business environment
  • Understand current and future needs and capabilities of operational facilities and employees
  • Provide input and recommendations regarding facility or operational expansion plans
  • Articulate strategies plans and recommendations to all levels of Management
  • Continue to grow use of CMMS in order to maintain and protest assets
  • Supervise Maintenance and Facilities Personnel

  • Ensure that all team members are treated in an equal and fair manner, abiding by the company Policies & Standards of Conduct
  • Ensure areas are adequately staffed to meet requirements optimizing productivity and asset utilization
  • Manage daily attendance and leave requests and vacation schedules, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and training programs
  • Ensure staff are operating according to the general SOP and / or Standardized Work
  • Administer the Performance Appraisal process including setting objectives and expectations, rating performance and doing Performance Reviews
  • Manage the Performance Improvement program including :
  • Dealing with issues and providing timely feedback
  • Coaching and counseling Team Members as appropriate
  • Raising issues to Director, Shared Services and providing proper information to Human Resources (HR)
  • Manage Maintenance, Facilities and Production Equipment

  • Responsible for ensuring the maintenance and repair facility, production, facility HVAC, production HVAC and laboratory equipment
  • Responsible for ensuring the maintenance and repair of buildings, management of external contractors and daily cleaning and maintenance, including cleaning supplies inventory
  • Understand production needs and ensure they are adequately equipped to efficiently and effectively manufacture products.
  • Establish and run a Total Productive Maintenance program and Work Order system ensuring production equipment is accurately maintained to maximize operational efficiency
  • Ensure Achievement of Performance Targets and Financials

  • Understand safety, quality, delivery and cost performance targets and how they contribute to enabling Operations to meet objectives
  • Supervise the daily activities of staff by scheduling their workloads, monitor timelines to achieve desired goals and meet project deadlines
  • Be aware of any significant equipment, material or information flow issues arising and ensure corrective action plans are initiated and implemented
  • Monitor and report relevant key indicators and develop Action Plans to close gaps
  • Create budgets and manage spending to achieve targets
  • Support and drive Continuous Improvement (CI)

  • Identify improvement opportunities and participate in establishing the performance metrics and the CI programs for Maintenance and Facilities
  • Champion the CI programs to the Team
  • Lead and maintain company visual management processes
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in specific CI projects and establishment of Standardized Work
  • Sponsor, lead, facilitate or participate in Kaizen activities
  • Promote a continuous improvement culture
  • Perform other Duties

  • Perform other duties and complete additional projects as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Education Requirements

  • Post secondary degree or diploma or equivalent in Applied Science, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Skilled trade certification, preferably Electrician, Millwright, Plumbing or HVAC related
  • 3-5 years relevant management or supervisory role
  • Competencies
