Position Overview

Every summer, Cadets attend youth summer camps in various locations across the country including Vernon, BC. These camps require the support of qualified medical professionals to respond to a wide range of healthcare needs from the campers. Primary Care Physicians are needed to perform physical examinations, diagnosis and manage common health conditions, perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, counsel patients on preventive health care and facilitate access to health services and referrals. Education on communicable diseases, responding to first aid concerns, and supporting mental health needs will be daily aspects of the role.

Responsibilities

At Cadet Training Centres (CTC), Physicians provide primary health care and first aid. They treat Regular and Reserve Force members, Cadet Instructor Cadre, and cadets. Duties include :

  • Patient assessments and screenings
  • Diagnostics
  • Treatment
  • Health counseling
  • Referrals

Shifts are typically 4 – 8 hours and can include weekdays and weekends. Evening shifts also available.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed as a Physician in the province of work
  • Hold certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) (physician)
  • CPR certificate
  • ITLS and PAL certification preferred
  • N95 Mask fit certification
  • WHMIS
  • Additional Requirements

    You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level and a current Vulnerable Sector Check
