Your work environment at EXP

EXP’s St. John’s Earth and Environmental group is seeking a Materials Testing Technician / Technologist for its materials testing laboratory in Mount Pearl and projects in St. John’s and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Practice Manager, the successful candidate will provide technical services to Project Managers and Engineers.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to complete laboratory testing, field inspections, and reporting for construction projects.
  • Execute laboratory materials testing (asphalt, concrete, grain size analysis, etc.) and field inspections (asphalt compaction, concrete cylinder casting, soil compaction).
  • Apply knowledge of materials laboratory / field testing, geotechnical engineering, and construction.
  • Prepare and review clear testing and inspection reports.
  • Interact with clients to provide excellent service and quick testing responses.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and EXP’s internal QMS system.

What Your Experience Looks Like

  • Civil Engineering technician / technologist diploma or equivalent, eligible for registration with AETTNL.
  • CCIL certification is an asset.
  • Experience in materials testing and geotechnical settings.
  • Knowledge of CCIL, ASTM, and CSA testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with civil, earth-moving, and construction projects.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills; experience with AutoCAD and gINT is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel within Newfoundland and Labrador for field investigations.
  • Organized, with good time management.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  • 2-5 years of related experience is preferred.
