Cad Rail has other facilities in Calgary, Lethbridge (under Caltrax banner) and has recently been selected by the ONxpress Transportation Partners association to provide all legacy fleet maintenance services for the Metrolinx rail fleet of approximately 1000 bi-level coaches and 90 locomotives.
Cad rail’s delivery team will operate and maintain Metrolinx’s rail maintenance facilities in Etobicoke and Whitby, as well as in multiple overnight along with mid-day light servicing facilities located across the Metrolinx train service area.
Summary of the role :
The Electrical Technician will be responsible for providing rail equipment maintenance services for the Metrolinx’s Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.
This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, will be responsible for performing various maintenance tasks on rail coaches, cab cars, locomotives and DMU’s.
Core Accountabilities :
Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being compliedResponsible for troubleshooting, analysis, fault detection and repair of coach and locomotive electrical systems, sub-systems, and componentsPerform modifications from drawings, prints or electrical systems on coaches and locomotives as assignedTest and download event recorder on laptop computer.
Megger reading for insulation testLocomotive, coach, and cab car preventive maintenanceChange out 575-volt receptacles and permanent wiring within the coach or locomotiveClean traction motors, repair and renew brushes as needed.
Wash batteries, check and add electrolyte level, check, and record specific gravity and charge as necessary. Check and clean all relays, magnetic contactors, temperature sensors, resistors, rectifiers, diodesInspect and clean AR15 traction alternator and high voltage gearPerform load test on HEP and main engine when attached to a load box.
Check operation of all HEP shut down protective devices. Disconnect and connect HEP Engine cables and traction motor cablesMegger reading for insulation testCheck and repair evaporator and condenser motorsTroubleshoot and repair LVPS system, batteries and charging systemWayside power application and removalComply with the company’s applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources’ guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Qualifications :
Ability to build strong rapport with the team and other unionized maintenance personnel1 2 years experience working in a rail maintenance environment or equivalent type industry.
Rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge is an assetCapable of using computers and computer control systemsSkilled in troubleshooting techniques and a complete understanding of electrical testing principles.
Familiarity with AC and DC power and control systems and HVAC systemsCapable of reading and understand drawings, blueprints, manuals, and other specifications.
Good communication skillsExperience using power and hand toolsMust possess a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s licenseGrade 12 or equivalent or a combination of education and work experience.
Electrical diploma from an accredited technical school or equivalent experienceCandidates will be required to show proof of skills.
