Job description

Job Summary

Assure the smooth and efficient operation of child development and early childhood programs that impact student achievement and support the district performance standards.

Essential Duties

1. Provide programmatic leadership to schools in developing, implementing and evaluating the district's child development and early childhood programs

2. Work with district and building administrators to assure the understanding of, and compliance with, teacher training, curriculum development and implementation requirements of child development and early childhood programs

3. Work collaboratively with community agencies in the areas of early childhood to meet the needs of children and families

4. Develop and implement procedures for 4-year-old identification / screening

5. Develop parent and teacher handbooks for the 4-year-old child development program

6. Ensure proper selection of students for the 4-year-old program

7. Serve as the liaison with principals and the State Department of Education in the area of early childhood

8. Work with schools to ensure understanding of and monitor implementation of early childhood and primary intervention programs

9. Develop and facilitate professional development for teachers and school leadership members

10. Assist with the collection, organization and analysis of student progress data for parenting, child development and kindergarten (i.e. MyIGDIs)

11. Oversee the HCS Preschool Parent Program and evaluate the HCS Preschool Program lead educator.

Other Duties

Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Elementary Executive Director

Job Specifications

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

1. Master's degree in education or administration from an accredited university

2. Certification in early childhood or elementary education

3. Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, preferably in primary grade(s)

4. Experience conducting workshops and / or sessions with adult learners

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Administration and / or Board may deem appropriate and acceptable

Physical Requirements

  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
