Duties And Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chair, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the incumbent will support the computer and software resources used in the educational, research and administrative activities of the department. The incumbent will also perform technical duties related to the support of instruction and research activities in the Department’s robotics / control, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics laboratories.
Qualifications
Sound knowledge of computer based systems (hardware and software), Server hardware, TCP / IP networks, Desktops configured for Computer Aided Design (CAD) workstations utilizing GPUs, and high‑performance computing systems. Complete familiarity with the operating systems (Windows, and Linux) in use within the Department for teaching and research is required.
Experience with maintaining Active Directory users and groups, file sharing, and printing configuration.
Experience with Imaging and deployment of Windows systems in a computer lab environment is an asset.
Experience with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) image management is an asset.
Experience with building Virtual Machines (VMs) using Hyper‑V.
Network configuration requires experience with ethernet, wireless technologies and TCP / IP protocols used on the network.
Experience maintaining and updating Cisco network switches and firewalls is an asset.
Familiarity with various Engineering software application packages including but not limited to Ansys CFX / Fluent / Mechanical, Patran / Nastran / Adams, Abaqus, Matlab, Maple, Fusion360, Catia and Labview is required.
Familiarity with 3D printer technology is an asset.
Some previous experience in a high‑performance computing environment, specifically, Linux‑based compute clusters and shared memory systems and GPUs.
Experience with Python and Python module installations under Windows and Linux.
Experience with Postgres SQL database installation and management.
Must have good interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships are maintained with all users.
Education And Experience
Completion of a 4‑year degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or Systems / Electrical / Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent. In addition, the position requires Computer Network Training sufficient for CCNA certification, as well as Linux Training or certification.
Five years of experience in computer systems and network administration, including working with laboratory equipment and data acquisition systems, and experience working with Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Software Applications.
