Your Opportunity :

Located in Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The PLC has over 600 inpatient beds, including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at the PLC is comprised of Social Work, Rehabilitation, and Spiritual Care staff. These staff work as vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will be expected to provide Social Work services primarily to the Emergency department and as needed to provide coverage support to medical / surgical units, maternity / pediatrics units, critical care, and outpatient clinic areas at the PLC. These services are primarily clinical in nature, and include advanced level assessment and treatment (including, but not limited to psychosocial assessments, counseling, case management and discharge planning). This caseload may change based on operational needs. This position requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and yet function as part of the interdisciplinary team. At all times the Social Worker ensures he / she is compliant with ACSW standards of practice.

Description :

As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients / families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Required Qualifications :

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications : Preferred Qualifications :

At least one year experience working within an adult acute care setting. Recent experience working with patients / families facing chronic illness. Experience working in Emergency dept and Mat / Child unit is an asset. Understanding of trauma informed care principles. Previous Connect Care Training an asset.
