About the Position
Under the direction of the Senior Lifeguards (and the Supervisor of Aquatics and recreation Programs), Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy learning / recreational environment during all Aquatics Program offerings. Lifeguards must also maintain constant surveillance of patrons at the facility to ensure everyone's safety and to immediately and effectively address and resolve any concerns with patrons.
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of each and every job performed but only those which represent the core functions of the job.
Responsible for facilitating a variety of aquatic programs and activities at the outdoor pools and therapy pool.
Maintain constant surveillance of patrons to ensure safety, administering first aid as needed following City of Welland procedures.
Maintain physical fitness to perform National Lifeguard skills and attend all required training and in-service sessions.
Understand and execute all policies and emergency procedures thoroughly.
Respond effectively to safety concerns and emergencies using critical thinking and sound decision-making.
Ensure safety during events on the recreational canal.
Perform facility maintenance tasks, including water testing, cleaning equipment, supplies, and public bathrooms.
Perform other related duties, including administrative tasks, as assigned.
What you need to Succeed...
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.
Valid National Lifeguard Certification (Lifesaving Society).
National Lifeguard – Waterfront certification is considered an asset.
High Five : Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Certification is considered an asset.
Vulnerable Sector Police Check (as per the City’s Police Background Check procedure).
Salary and Benefit Information
$21.48 - $22.33 (2026 Rate) Plus OMERS pension is available
