- Meets Medical Center’s Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
- Responsible for overseeing department operations; responsible for shift operations, quality of care, staffing, program development and evaluations and medical staff relations.
- Plans, assigns and monitors work of staff. Participates in supervisory duties including hiring, salary review, competency assessments, staff development, and coaching/counseling of employees.
- Participates in development & review of polices and procedures and ensures they are reviewed, revised, and implemented in appropriate time frames.
- Exhibits professional conduct with all co-workers, other departments, and with patients and visitors.
- Effectively communicates and collaborates with administration, physicians, departments, other clinicians, and hospital staff regarding patient needs. Maintains regular and ongoing communication with the CNO and department leaders.
- Engages in staff development, arranging regular in-services as well as providing individual instruction and orientation. Coordinates department specific skills development activities. Collaborates with other Department Leaders and Education Department to identify and address department learning needs.
- Provides a consistent flow of communication between administration and staff which emphasizes cooperation and team work within and between work groups.
- Provides administrative report of important occurrences.
- Collaborates with Quality and Risk Manager to facilitate the interdisciplinary quality assurance program for nursing service delivery and overview of Quality and Safety initiatives.
- In cooperation with other clinical supervisors, monitors, documents and provides feedback to department staff on job performance.
- Consistently performs the essential functions of a Registered Nurse in the assigned patient care unit and assists the nursing staff with patient care as needed. Serves as a role model for nursing staff; maintains a current knowledge base of unit-specific nursing theory and skills.
- Plans and/or participates in specific orientation of new employees including coordination of preceptors. Serves as a mentor to new staff.
- Reviews patient grievances and incident (VOICE) reports.
- Schedules and facilitates ongoing departmental staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned.
- Other duties may include: Kronos (timekeeping), scheduling, supply maintenance and/or other items as assigned by the CNO.
- Excellent communication and team building skills.
- Requires intermediate computer knowledge.
