Millwright – NTPC – Northwest Territories Power Corporation
Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Services, Energy South Operations (ESO), the Millwright performs journeyperson‑level work to safely install, overhaul, repair and maintain hydro and diesel power generation equipment and related auxiliary equipment within the ESO Region.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, complying with all rules and regulations, while performing all duties.
- Participate in Mechanical Services work group meetings, contributing to group objectives and coordinating unit workload and priorities.
- Execute millwright work in installation, overhaul, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hydroelectric and diesel generation equipment in accordance with work orders and schedules.
- Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System to enter reports, parts lists, resources, job times, schedules, and work process, and to access work orders and equipment history.
- Inspect work to ensure product specifications and quality standards are met.
- Provide specialist millwright advice and assistance to other trades and contractors, and train apprentices, maintenance staff or helpers as required.
- Assess equipment performance and recommend preventive maintenance, enhancement or replacement programs to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
- Perform fabrication tasks such as cutting, welding, fitting, sandblasting and painting.
- Erect scaffolding and operate rigging and / or crane equipment for moving, installing and transporting heavy machinery.
- Enter confined space entries as required.
- Maintain mechanical maintenance records, prepare parts lists, estimate person‑hours and develop work plans for inventory, budgeting and scheduling.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all safety programs, security legislation and Corporation Safety Rules.
- Travel extensively within the region, including remote hydroelectric and diesel plants, to perform mechanical maintenance work.
- Provide training to co‑workers and receive training from co‑workers as assigned by the manager / supervisor.
- Issue work protection lock‑out tag‑out permits as per Corporation policy / procedures, de‑energize and isolate, energize and return to service units, plants and auxiliary equipment as per Corporation Work Protection Code procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Red Seal Certification as an Industrial Millwright or Hydro Mechanic with a minimum of four (4) years of journeyperson experience.Minimum of two (2) years of journeyperson experience in a powerhouse environment or similar heavy industrial setting.Experience on Kaplan and Francis turbines, hydro‑mechanical governors, several bearing types, hydraulics, pumps, gates, stoplogs, compressors, and other hydroelectric and diesel power generation equipment.Ability to read and understand technical information, prints, engineering data, interpret charts, graphs, gauge scales and perform calculations.Willingness to learn new concepts, techniques, best practices and to work with other skilled trades and engineering disciplines.Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to meet production schedules.Computer skills to operate software related to plant operation and equipment maintenance; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, CAD software and other office software.Strong knowledge of condition monitoring techniques such as vibration monitoring and oil sample analysis.Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.Successful criminal background check.Benefits
Salary ranges from $50.05 / hr to $60.81 / hr, plus a location allowance of approximately $4,642 per annum. This position is located in Yellowknife, NT; relocation assistance may be provided.
