As a member of the Advanced Engineering team, the Design & Simulation Engineer reports to the Director, Global Advanced Engineering, Product, Process, and Material System Development, and supports the business and product development teams from concept to production.
Your responsibilities will be to :
Support business and product development teams from concept to production in Advanced Engineering group :
Perform CAD modeling
Execute tool, apparatus & component analysis : FEA, CFD, DEA, Gears, Fatigue
Study feasibility of process and production
Simulate Die fill, Compaction, Sintering, Selective Densification
Develop methods for prediction of Component Lifetime and Durability
Identification of optimization and workflow automation opportunities
Contribute to long term simulation strategy :
Identify & benchmark new simulation & modeling tools
Identify & take initiatives to develop and correlate material models used in FEA
Mentor student interns and junior engineers in the department to maximize their contribution to the department, and help them fulfill their potential
Works in compliance with Johnson Electric Canada Quality and EHS Policies and Procedures, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001
Perform related duties as required
Our requirements :
Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, machine design, materials science etc.
Sufficient knowledge & experience using finite element software, computer simulation, numerical methods and FEA Theory
Three years’ industrial experience preferred – automotive (powertrain) applications engineering and / or R&D
Familiarity with optimization and DOE methods
Experience with commercial software like FEMFAT (Fatigue) & Kisssoft(Gear design) is considered a strong asset
Experience with explicit FEA codes is an asset
C, Python, & MATLAB programming is considered an asset
An undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering is required; post-graduate degree is considered an asset
Experience creating designs for manufacturing with 3D modeling software (Creo, NX, or SolidWorks preferred)
Work environment consists of Engineering Office, Laboratory, manufacturing floor and office
10% of time spent off-site at project meetings, technical conferences and facilities that are supporting research projects
Ability to travel domestic and international
