Raw Material Officer - Winnipeg Canada

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE :

To oversee the varietal selection program for MENAMEX, including local trial management and synthesis. Communicating this to procurement, processing, sales, and external customers.

Assisting the barley procurement and malt sales by leading the sustainability farming and low carbon projects.

INTERNAL LIAISIONS : MENAMEX Procurement, Processing and Commercial Sales and MEG staff.

EXTERNAL LIAISONS : Universities, Institutes, associations, industry breeding companies, consultants, and contractors, Brewing and Distilling Customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

VARIETAL SELECTION PROGRAM

  • Oversee and manage the varietal selection and monitoring program.
  • Ensure Commercial Sales Force, Processing and Procurement strategies are fully aligned on varietal options regarding their agronomic and functional characteristics.
  • Identify and forecast key variety market share for open market origination and for sales force forecasting.
  • Manage the trials data in Fairview database (implementation, handling extraction)
  • Set the direction for the Barley Breeding lines to move through approval, their management, and potential sales.
  • Map, evaluate and drive the local trial networks and their functioning where applicable.
  • Monitor, synthetize and communicate internally on external trials networks.
  • Communicate and maintain relationship with BU stakeholders and Group counterparts.
  • Act as the Functional Variety Expert for the sales team and origination team when interacting with external customers.
  • Support the local teams in the supply chain on competitive intelligence of barley and other field crops with short- and long-term views.

LEAD SUSTAINABLE SOURCING PRACTICES

  • Lead sustainable agriculture standards implementation and certification on MENAMEX agricultural raw materials (SAI or equivalent implementation).
  • Forecast and position MENAMEX for new agricultural practices, innovation, and growth of market opportunities.
  • Lead MENAMEX in the Global reporting exercise, providing the key figures (sustainable sourced volumes)
  • Search out and acquire funding from outside of Malteurop for internal projects.

DESIGN & SUPPORT LOW CARBON FARMING / REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE

  • Lead MENAMEX on design and management of carbon reduction roadmaps for raw material production with support from MEG
  • Lead MENAMEX in the education of suppliers (and farmers) around carbon issues, ambition, methodologies, and tools
  • Identify common ground strategies and lead the implantation of strategies to increase farm participation.
  • Coordinate data collection on carbon footprint
  • Lead MENAMEX in the development of agricultural and biodiversity expertise and capabilities
  • Evaluate prospective research and analysis on new topic.
  • Explore and test potential solutions to ensure MENAMEX are industry leaders.
  • Build alliances and partnerships within the industry.
  • Coordinate data collection and impact measurement with relevant KPI
  • Search out and acquire funding from outside of Malteurop for internal projects.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Represent the company at industry committees, functions and other activities as required.
  • Build strong relationships with both external and internal service providers.
  • Support local management in providing timely data to allow month end and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Act as the Functional Expert for the origination and sales team on the variety, sustainability and low carbon topics when interacting with customers.
  • Manage program budget.
  • Support crop production forecasting in the US and Canada.

GENERNAL

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Malteurop policies and procedures (eg Values, Code of Conduct, CSR programs) and relevant Acts and Legislation
  • Assist with other office administrative tasks as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Food Science, Business, or related field.
  • Understanding of quality control systems as applied to the grain industry.
  • Field experience and trialing management.
  • Strong understanding of the impact of raw material on the malting, brewing and distilling processes
  • The ability to work independently using initiative and foresight.
  • High level of data entry and manipulation without compromising data accuracy
  • Office package management with strong Excel spreadsheet skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
