Job Summary
UBCs Okanagan campus promotes high-quality hands-on experiential education for students through undergraduate research study abroad on campus employment volunteer service and community-engaged learning. Engaging students in learning and development opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom is a critical part of the Universitys mission. The campus community believes there is a need to centralize organize promote and recognize student learning and engagement opportunities across the Okanagan campus and supports work that evolves the Experience and Involvement Hub. The coordinator supports UBCs mission to offer experiential education opportunities to every UBC Okanagan student.
Organizational Status
Reporting to the Manager Career Development and Co-operative Education while supporting the Experiential Education Steering Committee and Advisory Committee. As well as the work study steering committee. This position works closely with colleagues in the AVP Students portfolio and within the faculties to effectively deliver services that meet the Universitys mission. This position initiates develops and maintains excellent working relationships with colleagues across campus supporting experiential education.
Work Performed
- M aintains the experiential education software platform that is one central hub for students to search for engage reflect upon and record their learning & development experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
- Maintains partnerships with faculty and staff to guide support and encourage use of the Experience and Involvement Hub (EIH) including troubleshooting any technology issues.
- Identifies new experiential education opportunities that faculty and staff are facilitating and introduce various stakeholders to the EIH.
- Regularly monitors existing opportunities within the platform to ensure information is up to date and opportunities no longer offered are removed.
- Develops processes and training materials for student faculty / staff and admin audiences to guide navigation of experiential education.
- Coordinates student data uploads in the system.
- Improve student awareness and engagement in experiential education
- In partnership with AVPSO develops and executes a communications plan that ensures students have an increased awareness of opportunities and pathways to participation in the holistic scope of experiences and involvement opportunities available to them and are more heavily engaged throughout their UBCO degree.
- Monitors promotes provides support for and using the EIP in coordination with departments and programs.
- Assists with coordination of experiential education events including showcases fairs poster sessions panels community engagement educational workshops and presentations for students staff faculty & community partners.
- Assists with fall spring and summer EE opportunities outreach efforts and associated events / activities.
- Supports and assists campus partners in creating robust workplace learning opportunities for students. This includes maintaining accurate and current program information online creating and developing tools and resources that support campus employers in supervising students acting as a key resource person to on campus employers who are looking to recruit select train and evaluate student employees providing support and training for employers interested in hiring students facilitating program information sessions conducting campus-wide workplace learning site visits responding to any issues raised by employers about student employees and evaluating an on campus employer s experience following the end of a work placement.
- Develops resources tools strategies and methods to enhance student learning within workplace learning experiences including facilitating orientation and training programs conducting site visits and in-session meetings and carrying out the evaluation and feedback processes to identify trends and make recommendations.
Engage Experiential Education Partnerships / Stakeholders
Assists with identifying and managing relationships with key stakeholders including students faculty staff business and community partners.In collaboration with the Student Communications team produces experiential education communication resources and marketing strategies.Trains and supervises student staff when appropriate.Runs routine reports for students alumni employers staff faculty and departments.Consequence of Error / Judgement
Exercises judgment based on thorough knowledge of established policies and procedures. All information must be accurate and provided in a respectful timely and supportive way. Failure to provide the service that meets these standards affects student alumni employer and public perceptions of Student Services and / or the University including the University reputation. Incorrect decisions will have an impact on students the operations of the program budgets and the reputation of the department and the University.
Supervision Received
Work under the direction of the Manager Career Development and Co-operative Education within the Academic and Career Development department. Occasionally they may work under the direction of another Manager or Director and work is reviewed based on achievement of specific goals and objectives. Works collaboratively with all members of the Student Development team.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Willingness to respect diverse perspectives including perspectives in conflict with ones ownDemonstrates a commitment to enhancing ones own awareness knowledge and skills related to equity diversity and inclusionPreferred Qualifications
Experience managing data and documentation related to students in curricular and co-curricular programming in higher education.Experience working with and or implementing software.Excellent project management and organizational skills.Knowledge and demonstrated ability to understand and infuse diversity equity inclusion and social justice into experiential education work.Knowledge of and background in experiential educational programming in higher education especially for career preparation deepening disciplinary understanding and advancing social justice and civic engagement.Excellent problem-solving and communications skills.Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and part of a team.Required Experience :
