Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Corporate, the Drafter will prepare complex mechanical layout drawings for projects using CAD software. Responsibilities include developing drawings from notes, sketches, engineering schematics, and vendor information to meet project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend site meetings to assist in coordination and planning.
- Conduct field measurements and verify customer‑supplied information.
- Coordinate CAD vendors when required.
- Produce 2‑D and 3‑D CAD drawings with minimal client information.
- Extract drawings and information from client models.
- Maintain technical and mechanical layout drawings using 2‑D and 3‑D CAD software.
- Communicate and coordinate between the mechanical layout specialist and fabricators.
- Collaborate with product designers, technicians, engineers, and other professionals to produce 3‑D CAD models of prototypes.
- Create product design drawings, packaging specifications, facility layouts, topographical designs, and other models as required.
- Develop block diagrams for mechanical structures, electrical, and electronic schematics.
- Follow E.S. Fox standards for layering, dimensioning, text annotations, and CAD usage.
- Review CAD drawings to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
- Edit, rework, and update CAD drawings following product changes.
- Populate and maintain the CAD information repository database.
- Assist the Estimating Department with related mechanical work.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, upgrades, or purchases.
- Ensure safety responsibilities comply with E.S. Fox Ltd. safety policy, ISO 18001, and OHSA.
- Ensure environmental responsibilities comply with ISO 14001.
Key Requirements, Experience and Skills
Completion of a degree or diploma in a technical discipline, or equivalent fabrication and construction industry experience.Knowledge of ASME and CSA codes.Fundamental knowledge of 3‑D drawing.Knowledge of fabrication of piping and pressure vessels.Extensive oil‑industry piping and pressure‑vessel knowledge.Experience with 3‑D scanning and point‑cloud manipulation (asset).Significant experience in CAD using at least one of SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CADWorx, Inventor, AC Plant 3D, AC MEP, Revit, or other BIM packages.Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.Experience in fabrication and construction environments.Knowledge of custom steel, metal, fabrication, and piping code requirements.Experience or knowledge of fabricating, welding, and finishing carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum piping components.Ability to take initiative and work independently and as part of a team.Excellent organizational and leadership skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Attributes
