We are seeking a talented and experienced Legal Technology Lawyer to join our dynamic national Knowledge and Practice Innovation team, focused on technology and AI development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both legal practice and technology, with a passion for leveraging technological solutions such as artificial intelligence, to improve legal processes and outcomes. This non-practicing role requires technological proficiency combined with knowledge of legal workflows to provide hands‑on support in the implementation and adoption of improved legal processes and technologies, including artificial intelligence. This is a progressive opportunity for a creative and forward‑thinker interested in combining legal experience with technology and innovation. Reporting to the Director, AI & Legal Technology, this role offers a hybrid working arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with legal teams to identify opportunities for implementing a range of technology solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assist with leveraging AI systems for end‑users, ensuring these systems are tailored to meet the specific needs (e.g. choosing the right AI tool for various use cases, collaboratively prompt engineering, creating workflow‑specific AI apps).
- Work closely with Knowledge and Practice Innovation lawyers to leverage their relationships and understanding of different practice areas and legal workflows.
- Participate in system analysis, requirements gathering, system design, and implementation planning for existing or new systems.
- Validate the use of legal technology tools to ensure they are meeting the intended objectives and make necessary adjustments or recommendations for improvement as needed.
- Manage vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts, overseeing service level agreements, and ensuring vendors deliver high‑quality products and services that meet the firm’s needs and standards.
- Lead change‑management efforts to ensure successful adoption of legal technology solutions, including developing training programs, communicating benefits to stakeholders, and addressing any resistance or barriers to adoption.
- Provide training and ongoing support and guidance to legal and business professionals on the use of legal technology tools, including troubleshooting issues and answering questions.
- Where appropriate, provide hands‑on support in the use of legal technologies on client files, as a member of the matter team.
- Stay current on emerging legal technologies and trends and assess their potential impact on our Firm and clients.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders on all aspects of the selection, implementation, and use of legal technology.
Required Experience
Two (2) to three (3) years' experience in legal practice at a leading law firm.Expert understanding and working knowledge of Document Management Systems (iManage), Microsoft Office 365 applications, Adobe, and other legal production software (such as Litera products).Highly skilled in application administration, testing, configuration, performance monitoring, and in‑depth troubleshooting.Familiarity with legal technology tools, general AI applications, and platforms with AI components.Ability to facilitate small and large group meetings, training, and working sessions.Qualifications
LLB, BCL, or JD required; B.Comm or MBA is an asset.Fluency in both English and French.Must be a member in good standing with the applicable provincial Law Society.Minimum of two (2) years of legal practice experience in a large law firm, legal department, or professional services firm.Strong understanding of legal technology tools and platforms, with an interest in applying technical solutions to standardize legal processes.Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use logic to solve complex problems.Strong communication and organizational skills, with rigorous attention to detail.Ability to balance competing demands, demonstrate good business judgment, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a strong interest in evolving best practices in legal and knowledge industries and staying current on emerging legal technologies and trends.Pay Range
$130,000 to $150,000. Pay range to be commensurate with experience.
