Job description

Purpose :

The Faculty of Science houses administrative departments, teaching and research facilities. The buildings, which include Bethune College, Chemistry, Farquharson, Life Sciences, Lumbers, Petrie Science and Ross, serve many diverse teaching and complex research needs, some of which impose unique and specific demands on the building infrastructure. Research space includes numerous laboratories that houses specialized equipment and / or work involving biomedical and environmental Infrastructure and Research Facility Manager is responsible for effective management, administration and coordination of maintenance activities related to research facility and safety operations in the Faculty. The Infrastructure and Research Facility Manager manages the design and construction project delivery and facility renewal including budgeting and design coordination. The role implements changes to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and provides operational leadership on building, security and accessibility services. The role is responsible for overseeing the business development and operational leadership of the YSciCore facilities - Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Mass Spectrometry and Electron Scanning Microscope. Education :

Post-secondary Degree in Planning, Construction and Facilities Management or equivalent or a combination of education and experience

Certified Facility Manager designation

Experience :

Minimum five years' related experience with facilities, facility / property management and / or project management including three years' experience within a laboratory environment

Skills :

Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, standards and practices

Working knowledge of managing in a unionized environment and applying a working

Familiarity with the materials, tools and equipment used in the various Faculty of Science departments and knowledge of the unique Science research & teaching activities

Knowledge of relevant building codes, fire and electrical safety codesSkills

Effective oral and written communication skills. excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and collegially

Effective leadership and supervisory skills

Proven planning, time management, coordination and organizational skills

Ability to respond and adapt to a changing, high-pressure environment
