Position Overview :

The Director, Internal Audit and Compliance leads the internal audit and compliance teams, ensuring robust evaluation of internal controls, risk management, and the governance processes for financial and sustainability reporting. This role collaborates closely with senior management and external auditors to identify business risks and opportunities. The Director is responsible for formulating audit strategies, executing audit plans, and ensuring compliance with regulations such as NI 52-109. Effective leadership and collaboration skills are essential to drive organizational improvements based on audit findings.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Develop and manage a risk-based internal audit strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory and business requirements;
  • Oversee the NI 52-109 internal control program including co-ordination with external auditors and other stakeholders, as required;
  • Provide actionable recommendations to senior management regarding risk management and process improvements;
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, including audit findings, for the Audit Committee and senior management;
  • Manage the sub-certification process, including all necessary testing and reporting activities;
  • Identify control weaknesses and collaborate with business units to implement effective remediation plans;
  • Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and track corrective actions to resolution;
  • Conduct annual risk assessments, ensuring effective mitigation strategies are in place;
  • Conduct compliance audits as required;
  • Develop, implement and monitor internal controls for ESG reporting in conjunction with the Sustainability and Finance teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the internal audit team, fostering a culture of high performance and ethical standards;
  • Promote an environment of integrity, professionalism, and continuous improvement;
  • Building strong relationships with senior management and stakeholders;
  • Partner with business leaders to provide guidance on risk management and process enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • CPA, CA is required, CIA professional designation is an asset;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in audit / assurance, including experience directly managing teams;
  • An excellent grasp of NI 52-109 and excellent understanding of relevant frameworks (COSO 2013, COBIT);
  • Experience in the real estate industry would be a valuable asset;
  • Proven experience collaborating with senior leadership and external auditors;
  • Effective leadership and team management skills;
  • Exceptional communication, project management, and organizational abilities;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio). Experience with Yardi is an asset.
