Job Description :

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Vice President, Knowledge, Practice and Chief Nurse Executive, the Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners (ED, NP) provides senior leadership and direction to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) portfolio that integrates both practice and operational responsibilities including Professional Practice standards and accountabilities, evolving models of care, clinical practice and education models, quality care, and Health Human Resources workforce strategy.

The Executive Director leads Nurse Practitioner strategic planning, including ongoing role and practice development, implementation and sustainability of the roles, and quality oversight to NP practice across Island Health. This role collaborates with other executives and senior leaders on all aspects of strategic planning, quality, and clinical transformation that cross and affect major segments of the organization.

The Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners, works together in a collaborative leadership model promoting interprofessional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement. The position is accountable for specific and measurable goals in their area, as well as shared accountabilities to spearhead integrated clinical strategy and advocate for initiatives across Island Health to enhance models of care and improve patient outcomes.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training And Experience

Doctoral (DNP / PhD) degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus ten (10) years' recent, related progressively senior clinical leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner is required.

  • Possesses understanding of provincial legislation, health statutes and regulations pertaining to patient care, safety, and quality.
  • Demonstrated understanding of role in advancing Island Health's commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety and initiatives for Truth and Reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of current and future health care issues that impact the designated portfolio.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures and leadership roles to support patient-centred frameworks.
  • Negotiates, facilitates, builds consensus and effectively collaborates to build relationships that promote the achievement of cooperative goals.
  • Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
