Environmental Co-op Student (Climate Action)
(4-Month Term, 1 Position)
Dates: May to August
Shifts: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Are you interested in applying your knowledge and gaining valuable experience? The City of Abbotsford has 1 co-op employment opportunity with the Energy & Climate Action team. The Climate Action Co-op Student will be involved in a number of community climate action initiatives, to work towards reaching the City’s sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction goals. The role has an emphasis on engagement, with tasks including supporting internal and external engagement for energy and climate action projects, completing annual sustainability reporting, carrying out research reports, and assisting with program development and delivery.
If you are detail-oriented, enthusiastic about energy and climate action, and have a strong desire to contribute to the community, we want to hear from you. This position has an hourly wage of $20.68 - $26.34, dependent on year of study, and works onsite at Abbotsford City Hall.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in the development and delivery of energy and climate action plans and programs by preparing and maintaining detailed records, files, and correspondence related to the work;
- Help to facilitate internal and external meetings and engagement processes to advance energy and climate action initiatives;
- Update and maintain City website content related to energy and climate action;
- Support local energy and climate data collection and analysis needs;
- Utilize and build professional communications and engagement skills to complete annual sustainability reporting;
- Carry out research and summarize findings in concise reporting formats (memos, briefs) to scope, inform or support monitoring and evaluation of energy and climate action projects and programs;
- Assist in the development of communications and education materials for internal and external audiences; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Completion of 3rd year at a post-secondary institution.
- Relevant work experience and/or educational background in sustainability (e.g. climate action, engineering, environmental science, education, communications, public policy)
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with others;
- Highly organized and possess superior time management skills;
- Comfortable in reaching out to, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience, interest, and ability in working with internal and external stakeholders, including the public; and
- Proficient in the use of smart phones, mobile apps, and Microsoft suite of programs.
