Your Opportunity :
The Psychiatric Aid (PA) assists with patient care on the inpatient unit by assisting in supervising patients, engaging patients in activities as symptoms permit, providing close observation, responding to patient requests, and assisting nursing staff with duties as requested. The PA participates in assessing, coordinating, supervising, administering, and evaluating the provision of medical and mental health services and healthcare resources. The PA plays a key role in support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient's health care and health promotion. The PA is an active participant in complex / unpredictable patient care settings and acts as a liaison between the inter-disciplinary team and other providers of care to support the patient.
Description :
As a Psychiatric Aide, you will perform activities within a multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. Your duties will includes assisting with the provision of routine nursing care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs; assisting with organized activities or programs; as well as observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. You will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.
Required Qualifications :
Completion of Grade 12. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications :
Completion of Personal Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications :
Health care aide certification post-secondary education in social sciences, psychology or health services Experience working with persons with addiction and / or mental health issues in a hospital setting.
