Pendopharm, the specialty brand division of Pharmascience, is a critical growth engine for the company and is under-taking a concerted effort to build a growth mindset to achieve what can be versus what is.
The Business Development Director will be a key member of Pendopharm leadership with broad responsibilities including prospecting, evaluating, negotiating, and closing deals for new product opportunities, including in-licensing and product acquisitions, and corporate acquisitions for innovative specialty products for the Canadian market.
The role will report to the VP, GM of Pendopharm.
The ideal candidate is results-oriented with exceptional analytical skills, a high attention to detail and a network of potential partners from which to source new product deals.
The candidate must demonstrate an ability to sort through complex data, gather relevant viewpoints, identify important issues and make well reasoned and actionable recommendations based on the findings.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead all business development activities, including sourcing of new product opportunities and company targets, partner outreach and relationships, negotiating deal terms, leading due diligence and deal execution
- Support the pipeline team in identifying new product opportunities
- Work with the pipeline and market access teams to develop business cases & present to management for investment approval.
- Develop conclusions and provide actionable recommendations supported by analysis, and presented in a visually compelling, clear, objective framework for business decisions.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and close new product business development deals through in-licensing, product acquisition, co-development, and other collaboration agreements.
- Collaborate with internal legal team and subject-matter experts to lead negotiations from term sheet to signing of legal contract.
- Support integration and on-going relationship with partnerships as products advance through development to launch.
- Identify and attend networking events with new companies and targets at relevant conferences.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s Degree (Life Sciences or Business Administration); M.Sc. Degree is an asset.
- 7 to 10 years’ experience across business development, marketing, and business analysis within the pharmaceutical industry
- Thorough understanding of commercial aspects of the business including brand management, forecasting, pricing and reimbursement
- Analytical & research skills that drive a capacity to learn new therapeutic classes and understand brand strategies, marketing plans and product positioning
- Demonstrated ability to distill down and synthesize complex information from various sources into insights and actions.
Competencies :
- Excellent negotiator with experience in negotiating in-licensing / acquisition transactions for pharmaceutical prescription late-stage, approved or marketed product.
- Strong team player, proactive in nature, with a can-do ’, self-starter attitude
- Entrepreneurial mindset who can handle ambiguity & create clarity
- Strategic, analytical thinking and problem solving
- Problem solving and analytical translation ability by quickly sifting through details from a wide variety of sources and developing insights, implications, and actionable recommendations.

- Excellent communications skills : interpersonal, networking, verbal, written and presentation in English. Ability to communicate in French and other languages is an asset.
- Thorough understanding of the Health Canada, IMC Code, and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
