Job description

About the Opportunity

  • Liaise with external tax preparers, send them the required information for preparation of Canadian and US tax returns for the portfolio (T3s, T5013’s).
  • Liaise with the Investor Relations team to send out proper tax return slips with adherence to deadlines.
  • Work on large financial data files for compiling tax information from investors.
  • Work on annual Mortgage Fund tax reporting and preparation & filing of T3 slips, including verification and validation of information.
  • HST return filing.
  • Regular review of FS to ensure compliance with changing tax reporting requirements.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Assisting with maintaining integrity and accuracy of investor records.
  • Prepare wire payments of properties.
  • Backup the functions of other members of the finance team.
  • Quarterly Distributions & Return of capital : Calculation and preparation of investor distributions, using manual, ACH and Wires modes of payment, and support with investor specific issues (e.g., investor transfers, unique distribution amounts, etc.).

    • Other Duties

  • Handle miscellaneous reporting requests such as summary of units held per partner by portfolio, investor’s query on T3 / T5013 slips, or amendments.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

    • About You

  • At least three years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Post secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration.
  • CPA designation or working towards an accounting designation is an asset.
  • Real Estate accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with Canadian or US Tax reporting and preparation of T3 / T5013 tax returns and slips.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel (ability to create and maintain efficient and clearly formatted worksheets of large and varied financial data).
  • Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and conduct independent investigations.

    • Hourly Rate

    35 - $40 / hr
