Registered Practical Nurse {CUPE MH-25-594}

Position: Registered Practical Nurse
Department: Regional Dementia Care & Specialized Adult Rehabilitation & Transitional Service

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
• Current Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) Certificate required
• Experience working with older adults demonstrating responsive behaviours including evidence of creative application of Personhood
• Knowledge of neurodegenerative disorders, best practices, and relevant pharmacotherapy for this population
• Demonstrated application of the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation for adults with severe mental health concerns and concurrent disorders
• Knowledge of best practices to support individuals with substance use disorders including motivational interviewing and trauma informed care
• Knowledge and application of the Recovery Model required
• Knowledge of relevant acts and regulations e.g. Controlled Acts, Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA
• Computer application experience required including advanced level of skill in documentation
• Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Certificate is an asset
• Current PIECES certification required
• Montessori Methods for Dementia an asset

Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with clients, families, employees, service providers
• Ability to work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team, including participation in nursing programming
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with clients, families, employees, service providers
• Understanding of trauma informed care principles and able to apply within all relationships and interactions
• Must be willing to work shifts in other programs as required
• Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
• Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
• Good attendance and work record required
• Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
