Overview
The Cloud Engineer role sits in the Cloud Platform Engineering team at Scotiabank. This role contributes to modernizing development practices and cloud platforms to provide streamlined processes for development teams to focus on business logic. The role supports the enterprise with platform components and services for enterprise-wide use.
Responsibilities
- Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Develop and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of public cloud offerings.
- Provide Level 3 support as required.
- Work independently to implement and refactor code, with team reviews.
- Ensure software, programs, and applications are developed and / or configured to meet high availability, integrity and reliability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with other engineers and architects to break down, scope, and estimate tasks.
- Participate in planning and retrospective sessions and attend stand-ups.
- Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
Qualifications
Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and cloud platform / components / services development.Strong development experience with breadth of language experience (e.g., Hashicorp DSL (HCL), Go, Rego).At least 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure.At least 3+ years of experience with virtualized environments (VMware, Virtual Servers).At least 3+ years of experience with development languages (Ruby, Python, etc.). Proven experience in cloud development (GCP / Azure) required.At least 3+ years of experience with CI / CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).At least 3+ years of experience with configuration management tools and scripting languages (Puppet, Ansible, Bash).Good oral and written communication skills.Ability to work with ambiguity and be self-sufficient.Attention to detail and high standards for quality.Writing and maintaining related documentation.Nice to Have
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, or mathematics.Understanding of software development lifecycle and release processes (Git / GitOps, CI / CD, environments, code repositories).Focus on scalable, enterprise-level software system design (code and infrastructure).Passion for driving teams toward high performance and quality craftsmanship.Experience within Canadian financial institutions is a benefit.Location
