Industrial Custodian / Janitor

BRC is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-orientated Industrial Janitor / Custodian to join our growing and dynamic Maintenance and Facilities Team at BRC. BRC is a highly efficient and flexible manufacturing facility located in Georgetown, ON specializing in case good production for furniture.

THE OPPORTUNITY : POSITION SUMMARY

The Custodian / Janitor is responsible for performing routine and varied tasks in alignment with good housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance processes within the BRC Plant and Office building as well as outside of the building as required. The Custodian / Janitor will be required to cross-train on positions and comply with SOPs and quality standards of product while adhering to Health & Safety and BRC policies on a consistent basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete floor maintenance including sweep, mop, sanitize and use industrial floor scrubbers on both office and production floors, restrooms and common areas to remove oil, dust, and debris.
• They will also clean up area outside as required, such as the picnic table area and smoking area.
• Restock / replenish supplies in high-traffic areas including public washrooms and kitchen facilities. Take inventory of Janitorial supplies and present to Director of Facilities and Maintenance for approval. Keep Janitorial equipment in good working condition.
• Empty all trash, rag bins and recycling bins safely.
• Wipe down high-traffic touch points like door handles, railings, and shared workstations to prevent the spread of illness on a rotation basis or as needed per traffic volume levels.
• Upon successful completion of the WHMIS requirements, safely clean up non-hazardous and hazardous spills (following WHMIS / OSHA guidelines).
• Clean Fridges, Microwaves, General Appliances, Lockers as scheduled.
• May be required to operate and attend to manual and automated tools once certified and trained.
• Help machine operators by loading parts, feeding raw materials, or holding components during production, once successfully trained.
• Clear debris from loading docks, maintain walkways (snow / ice removal), and ensure emergency exits are clear of obstructions.
• Openly participates in educational and cross-training opportunities as applicable to the position.
• Follow all maintenance and production procedures as instructed.
• Perform all work to BRC standards and ensure final product meets safety standards.
• Determine and report janitorial product and equipment malfunctions and request requirements to Reporting Manager.
• Ensure the daily and weekly cleaning schedule is adhered to.
• Complete Facility Checklists regularly for tracking / reporting purposes.
• Complies with all company health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Without limitation, wears Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
• Maintains a clean and well-organized work area.
• Basic; respectful, courteous and works well with others and builds effective working r0elationships within the department and BRC.
• Works overtime as required.
• Supporting other departments, including in Production department when available and where needed, given approvals are obtained.
• Performs other duties as assigned from time to time at the discretion of management.
