The Estimator, Construction position will primarily be responsible for preparing estimates for multiple projects in the DeFaveri General Contracting divisions. This position will prepare take-offs and estimates of probable costs to contribute to the teams’ sales and profit target objectives.

What you’ll be doing :

  • Under the direction of the President and the Senior Estimating team, calculate quantity takeoffs, material price lists, labour, and equipment costs.
  • Update takeoffs for changes in drawings, addendum, or other job specifications; report changes to the President.
  • Prepare budget and Company price estimates and detailed specifications on construction work for the client.
  • Work in the office and occasionally spend time on construction sites reviewing projects to price and progress objectives.
  • Obtain price estimates from vendors and subcontractors and negotiate and solicit bid prices.
  • Ensure that price quotes are prepared for and received by potential clients.
  • Organize drawings and all other job documentation, both electronically and as a paper copy.
  • Maintain job files, responsible for the proper filing system.
  • Exercise strong focus to meet deadlines, strong attention to detail, strong organization skills and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Performance Requirements include :

  • Maintain a network of effective relationships and coordinate closely with Vice Presidents, Project Coordinators, clients, Subcontractors, suppliers, and other employees.
  • Maintain expertise regarding legislation, standards and codes affecting mechanical contracting.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current and emerging technological changes as they are affecting the mechanical contracting sector.
  • Ensure that estimating assumptions include provisions for a safe working environment.
  • What we require :

  • A University Degree or Diploma in Construction Estimation, Engineering (CET, Civil), construction management, or a related discipline would be preferred.
  • Master of Engineering (Civil) is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of estimating experience in ICI, obtaining drawings, electronic files, and all other documentation required to prepare project takeoffs and cost estimates.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings, and plans.
  • Detailed understanding of means and methods and construction sequences.
  • The personality and necessary skills to work with diverse groups, including clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, and maintain these working relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Bid2Win software, PlanSwift software, Timberline estimating software and the ability to learn and utilize new programs (CMIC, 4S Safety).
  • Valid driver’s licence in good standing.
