Payband J - Starting Rate : $42.56; Four Year Rate : $49.34
Department : Faculty of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship and Faculty of Hospitality& Horticultural Science
Hours : 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon - Fri (8 : 30 am - 4 : 30 pm)

Duties and Responsibilities :
Reporting to the Office Manager for the School ofSkilled Trades & Apprenticeship and the School of Hospitality &Horticulture Science, the incumbent is responsible for coordination,organization, and growth of pre-apprenticeship programming at Durham College.The incumbent fulfills all related administrative activities including : ministry reports, maintaining employer database to assistant students with allaspects of employment (i.e., EI and OW claims, foreign credential equivalences,review of academic assessments, etc.
The incumbent is the first point of contact for all academic related functions forpre-apprenticeship students. It is imperative that College and Ministryguidelines / regulations are followed at all points of advising studentsthroughout the duration of the pre-apprenticeship program. This role providesacademic guidance and leadership to students with a wide range of needs, includinghelping them access appropriate college resources and a variety of learningstrategies, and finding success with job placement. This support and other actionsmean the incumbent has a direct impact on student success, and as such, theymust understand the importance of professionalism, confidentiality and strongcommunication.
Working with Community Employment Services, theincumbent is responsible for performing job development, job matching / placementand job retention services for pre-apprenticeship students. This position isresponsible for facilitating training grants / incentives for employers. Theincumbent also works at Oshawa and Whitby campus and the position requirestravel to various employer locations and may involve hours outside of standardbusiness operation.
The incumbent is expected to carry out assigned dutiesto support all components of service delivery by working in collaboration withDeans, Faculty, Directors, Career and Student Development, Manager of SchoolCollege Work Initiative and Academic Upgrading, and the Executive Dean who hasprogram accountability.
