Job Summary

The Specialist, Solution and System Integration is responsible for leveraging full-stack development skills to integrate innovative geospatial capabilities and real-time data into intuitive mobile and web interfaces. The role collaborates with stakeholders and partners to design solutions that improve railroad asset management, operations, and safety. The position is an authority with geospatial standards, developing offline first experiences, and modelling complex rail networks.

Main Responsibilities

Develop and maintain the front end and back end of mobile applications

Build responsive user interfaces and experiences optimized for mobile devices

Implement mapping and location capabilities and integrate geospatial data services

Employ test-driven development and Development Operations (DevOps) processes like Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and automation

Design and implement Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs) and integration with internal and external systems

Develop offline capabilities and synchronization with back-end databases

Collaborate with stakeholders and Business Analyst to gather requirements and design solutions

Model complex railroad networks and assets using graph concepts and algorithms

Ensure cross-platform compatibility and performance across iOS and Android

Apply security best practices and compliance with industry standards

Participate in code and reviews as well as provide technical guidance

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.). Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

Experience

Application Development

Minimum 7 years of professional experience developing complex web and mobile applications

Experience integrating and implementing mapping, Graphic Information System (GIS) capabilities and APIs

Experience with geospatial data formats and protocols like GeoJSON, Web Feature Service (WFS), and Web Mapping Service (WMS)

Demonstrated experience developing and consuming REST APIs

Education / Certification / Designation

Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, related degree, equivalent experience, or a related field

Technical Skills / Knowledge

Expertise with JavaScript, Node.js, React, React Native, and Redux

Knowledge of GIS libraries and platforms like Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, OpenLayers, Google Maps JavaScript API, CesiumJS, Turf.js, Deck.gl

Knowledge of geospatial data formats, standards, and protocols

Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts (OOP), design patterns, and architecture best practices

Back-end expertise with languages like Java, PHP, Python or C#

Experience with graph algorithms, modelling, and visualization

Knowledge of DevOps methodologies including CI, CD, testing, and monitoring

Ability to develop offline-capable applications with synchronization
