Job description

Introduction

Manitoba Wildfire Service is seeking highly motivated individuals interested in filling the role of Fire Rangers based out of the Lac du Bonnet Regional Fire Centre and Lac du Bonnet Fire Base. The intent of these positions is for coverage where needed throughout the eastern region and the province. An eligibility list may be created to fill other FR2 positions throughout the region as required. The Manitoba government has a comprehensive benefits package, which includes extended health care, health spending account, dental care, vision care, long term disability insurance, group life insurance and defined pension. Duties : Under the supervision of the Fire Ranger 3, the Fire Ranger 2 performs a variety of heavy and light manual duties associated with maintenance, preparedness and daily inventory control. The Fire Ranger 2 will be required to operate various equipment including specialized mowers, light motor vehicles and the equipment used in the fire operation of an assigned base; including janitorial duties and general maintenance of grounds and facilities. May be required to operate various small equipment and tools and assist with construction and maintenance. The Fire Ranger 2 may also be required to perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, as well as keep daily operating and maintenance records.

  • Ensures that the district fire equipment inventory, vehicles, supplies and caches are accounted for and maintained in serviceable condition to Provincial standards.
  • Participate in minor construction, repair and fire program infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in organizing forest fire suppression support activities including , but not limited to arranging for lodging, ordering food, , commissary, supplies and loading and unloading of support aircraft.
  • Maintain detailed record of equipment inventories.
  • Conducts work activities in accordance with Workplace Safety and Health Act Regulations.

Qualifications : Essential :

  • Experience working in the outdoors doing manual labour.
  • Experience in the use and or maintenance of small engine equipment, camping equipment, and power tools.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to work indepenently and with minimal supervision.
  • Desired :

  • Experience in wildfire suppression, including use of standard firefighting equipment eg : shovel, axe, pulaski, Mark 3 fire pump, fire hose, chain saws.
  • Experience with inventory control.
  • Conditions of Employment :

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position such as lifting, carrying and loading fire fighting equipment, and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends, overtime and be deployed provincially, inter-provincially, or internationally as / when required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR, training is provided by the employer.
