Qualifications : Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma Functional Knowledge of Braille; if no candidates identified with functional knowledge of Braille, would consider general knowledge of Braille with the ability to learn and research. Understanding Characteristsics of CVI considered an asset Requirements : Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development Support and / or implement teacher directed programming Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, CST and members of a multi-disciplinary team Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and / or school specific behaviour strategies Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural / educational outcomes and mitigate / prevent negative ones Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes Work and play at student’s physical level of their activities Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required Swim program, Able to Swim in 50 meter pool Medical Procedures – such as Catheter, Tube feeding, Feeding and swallowing support, or diabetic monitoring Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe Physical ability to lift and move students Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision Home program; travel between schools or within the community is required Employee is expected to work with behaviours related / associated with conduct, obsessive / compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and / or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional / behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.
