The EIC is responsible for all journalistic content The Ontarion publishes online and in print. They set an editorial plan for the paper in terms of design, format, and content that is consistent with The Ontarion’s strategic plans and guidelines. Reporting to the Executive Director, the EIC will receive training and support in their role as they apply journalistic principles as they manage the daily operations of the Editorial Department.The EIC oversees editorial staff, schedules work hours, coordinates volunteers (including providing guidance as needed), and facilitates regular editorial team meetings, pitch meetings, and volunteer meetings.The ideal candidate will : Possess a diploma or degree in journalismHave knowledge of journalistic practices including hard news reporting, interview techniques, editing, fact checking, news gathering, etc.Have an ability to work both independently and as part of a teamBe able to act as a leader and set a positive and professional example for the staff and volunteersHave a general knowledge of equipment and processes used in the digital production of a newspaperA general knowledge of social media and content management systems (WordPress experience is considered an asset)Please note that applicants do not need to be an expert, and we strongly encourage recent graduates of journalism programs.
