The Principal Structural Engineer is responsible for proficiently managing the coordination and production of design outputs that are fit for purpose and in alignment with project and study requirements.

Responsibilities

• To coordinate and supervise the structural engineering and drafting project team.
• To provide structural designs which meet the process, project and client’s requirements.
• To prepare concrete and structural steel designs which comply with study or project specific codes and standards.
• To undertake structural designs within agreed date and manhour budgets.
• To enable effective and timely completion of structural designs and drawings through provision of design input.

Qualifications

• University Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• More than 15 years post‑graduation experience – heavy industrial, mining experience preferred.
• Familiarity with mining industry and/or process plant design.
• Ability to manage effectively the interaction with the Client on design and drafting issues.
• Demonstrate an ability to perform allocated tasks, unsupervised, within agreed milestone dates and to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
• Ability to manage design/drafting teams and achieve budget manhours and milestone deliverable dates.
• Demonstrate a high level of technical ability within the field of expertise.
• Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft suite of software packages, including MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and Projects.
• Demonstrated skills with specific proprietary software packages relevant to the Engineering discipline, including Finite Element Analysis and Dynamic Analysis for concrete and steel structures.
• Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently as an essential member within a team.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a practical approach to engineering problems.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development.
